4th of July flip flops for little snobby feet

I don't quite have the plan in place to make my kid's 4th of July outfit/tee shirt this year, despite some really cute inspiration, but when I realized I already had the navy flip flops already... Well, it was an over-the-top project that was destined to be!

I saw the cutest bow on The Girly Baby:

and wanted to recreate it (ish) on the flip flops with ribbon I already had.  But I didn't really know how.  So I just started layering ribbon and bows.  So maybe you know how to make a version of that delectable treat above, but in case you don't, here's what I did:

And, voila!  There you go mes amigas!

Ahh... Patriotic on Pinterest!

Pinterest is kind of my new obsession, I can lose all kinds of time on it.  And patriotic pins are running rampant on it!  So I'm sharing a few of my favorite ideas:

Heartbreak kids made this ADORABLE little dress for her daughter and actually makes it look easy!

An Altered State made these "firecrackers" by recovering lifesavers: genius.  I even have left over 4th of july papers from my wreath project...

So I pinned this patriotic printable without even realizing that one of my cute friends was the one to make it!  I sadly don't check her blog as often as I should apparently!  You can print it off from her blog, Wet Donkey.

And I'm not at all sure that I could ever make the following cake, but I like looking at it!  Check it out at Glorious Treats:

This printable is just too cute, and thanks to Copy Cat Crafter, you can download it for free!

Room to Inspire has about the easiest way I've seen to make a fun 4th treat; why don't I think of this stuff???

Don't you wish someone would make you this Americana pie?  I would never undertake it myself but I want it super super bad.  Thanks Woman's Day for making any treat I end up making totally inadequate!

So maybe I can't make the pie, but these tin can windsocks, made by SuperMom, look like a possibility and I love them!

Fireworks Floats and Firecracker Popcorn

So I LOVE LOVE the 4th of July...don't you? I love to celebrate it, I love to decorate for it, I love to dress up for it and I love to cook up fun things for it. My kids as I have said many times before have become somewhat snobby in what they now think all Holidays entail...not that I am complaining it is actually quite endearing to mommy's little snobby heart! And the 4th of July is a super fun time around this house. (maybe its because treats are abundant hmm...) And today's post is one of our family's favorite 4th of July treats. Firecracker Floats which we have on the 4th and firecracker popcorn (which we have on the 4th and  many other times of the year because it really is to die for good and red really works well for a plethora of holidays!) We like to make little treat packages for friends and neighbors with the popcorn to wish them a happy 4th. So what makes a float a firecracker float? Those special little candy pop rocks--they really do ROCK. And of course red and blue soda--the combo creating a red, white and blue float complete with the firecracker sound effects and all.
So here is what you will need to make your floats. (Any red and blue soda will work of course!) Then make a float as you normally would and when ready to explode eat, have the kids sprinkle the pop rocks on top. Listen for the explosion and drink up!! Always a hit...no matter how many times we have done it.

Now for the Red Hot Firecracker Popcorn Recipe. This really is a treat and I mean so good you can't stop eating it, so beware and don't say I didn't warn you!

3 bags microwave popcorn, popped
1 C. Butter
9 oz Red Hots Candy
1/2 C Corn Syrup

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Have popcorn ready in a large bowl. Have a roast pan or large jelly roll sheet sprayed with cooking spray and ready to go. Mix butter, syrup and candy over med/high heat. Once it boils let it boil for 5-8 mins longer. It should then reach soft ball stage on a candy thermometer. All the while stirring constantly. Once it reaches soft ball remove from heat and pour over popcorn and mix well. Pour popcorn into pan or sheet and place in oven. Roast for 45 min stirring after 20 mins. Remove from oven and pour out onto parchment paper or sprayed wax paper to cool in a single layer. Store in an airtight container.

4th of July wreath

June's Craft Night has come and gone, and we did not take pictures for a tutorial.  Shame on us!!!  What kind of bloggers are we?!

Oh well.

We are going to show you the 4th of July wreath we made at Craft Night again though.  And I'll tell ya how to make one of your very own just in time for Independence Day.

This wreath is made like a tutu, we've linked you to a tutorial before, with 3 rolls of tulle.  The board is about 8" by 20" and we had Home Depot cut a longer board for us.  They do it for pretty cheap, and if you're super cute like Glitta, then they'll do it for free!  We covered our boards in book page, but wouldn't it be cute to cover it in a copy of the Declaration for Independence?  We cut the letters out at 5.5" and modge-podged them on.  We cut some patriotic streamers into "fireworks" and superglued rhinestones leading up to them.  Scraps from the streamers made their way around the board and got modge-podged on as well for good measure.  Any questions?  Ask away!  I have to say, my front door looks pretty snobby right about now!

Welcome the First Day of Summer in A Snobby Kind of Way

With Summer Officially here I like to have a Summer Kick Off party at our house. Nothing fancy just fun!! (And cross our fingers that the torrential rain we had ALL day on Monday will not resume today)
I think we will definitely hit the pool, run through the sprinklers, eat some otter pops, have a squirt gun fight, eat some more otter pops, take a bike ride. That should bring us to the fun part of the day...THE FIRST NIGHT OF SUMMER and to kick it off I thought it would be super fun to serve my kids these drinks with our outdoor BBQ on the fire pit.
I mean what kid will not think their mom is the coolest thing around when you serve them a glow-in-the-dark drink?? I can't wait!! Thanks to the snobby mommy at ComeTogetherKidsblogspot.com we can all be super cool tonight!
SO WELCOME SUMMER!! And enjoy the looks on your kids faces when you pull out the glow-in-the-dark drinks--and try to hide your own amazement too!!

Last Minute Father's Day Ideas

And when I say last minute, I mean it's 9:30 on Saturday night and you, like me, are pulling together plans to celebrate Daddy-o!

I thought I'd share a couple quick, easy ideas to make the day more special tomorrow!

Right now, I'm printing off these Amanda Parker's free tie printable, but just the cupcake toppers.  I'm going to use them as handouts for my Sunday School class tomorrow.  I teach some pretty little kids so I thought I'd just punch a couple holes in the ties and use yarn to make necktie cards to send home with them!

blog stuff.png
download them from her site here

I'm also thinking of making these super cute cupcakes from Nothing but Country:

The husband is getting a new fly fishing rod tomorrow, so it would be appropriate!  Last year I made cupcakes to tie in with his other great love: golf!

Father's Day Breakfast..snobstyle!

So what would be more perfect for Father's Day Breakfast than cinnamon rolls? Oh I found something even better...Cinnamon Roll Pancakes!! Genius right? I mean no effort in kneading and no time to rise which means moms everywhere will be sleeping in a little later this Father's Day! I was no less than thrilled (and drooling) when I stumbled across these babies from recipegirl.com.
I immediately knew these were a snobby find and added them to the Father's Day Menu along with some bacon and fresh OJ and you are so golden mamas!!

So enjoy a later morning and please let us know what you think of these pancakes.

For Father's Day, why not make a fun card with pictures of what your favorite man likes to do? Is it fishing? Is it reading? Maybe playing a game of basketball or football? Or just horsing around with the kids? If you're crafty, you can use scrapbooking paper to make something cute, or there are a multitude of digital frames you can use. I like this one because of the wood frame elements (makes it look more manly :) One of my favorite sites for digital cards and scrapbook paper is The Shabby Princess (http://www.shabbyprincess.com/downloads.asp). This is a link to FREE downloads of super-cute paper and collections, but they also have a bunch more you can buy for very reasonable prices. After making your card, you can even put it in a frame so he can keep it on his desk at work or on his nightstand.

So start snapping pictures of your favorite Dad doing his favorite things, and you're sure to have a card that's meaningful and artsy!

Pedi Party!

Glitta surprised me with the best party idea: a pedi party!  It was so much fun and such a good idea!  It's fun for everyone, give you a chance to relax and easily visit (unlike a movie or something) and it's pretty affordable.  Everyone pays for their own pedicure and the shop usually will let you reserve the space for no additional cost.  Glitta made a delish salad, already dished up into plastic cups with plastic forks, so that it was an easy dinner to have while we sat in our giant massage chairs.  And then her yummy banana cream cupcakes topped things off with a custom cupcake stand.

If you have a sister/mother/friend with a birthday coming up, this is a fun and relatively easy way to make it special!

Banana Cream Cupcake, June's Snobcake!

How good does that look? I am thinking really good right about now. This was from Dot's little bday soiree and they were good!! Ever since I had a banana cream pie shake from Chik Fil A I can't quite get my fill.(If you haven't tried you are really missing out) So June's Snobcake is a Banana Cream Pie Cupcake.  Now I don't generally just make a recipe up but this is pretty close to a made up recipe...and I don't ever make a cake from scratch so for those of you bakers like me who love Duncan as much as I do...hope you enjoy.

Banana Cream Pie Cupcakes

1 box Duncan Hines white cake mix
1 stick of butter, melted
3 eggs
1 cup water
2 ripe bananas, mashed
1 box of banana pudding

Preheat oven to 325. Line muffin cups with paper liners. (this makes slightly more batter than 24 cupcakes) Pour cake mix into a bowl and add melted butter, 3 eggs, pudding mix, mashed bananas and 1 cup of water. Mix on low for 1 minute. Scrape bowl and mix on medium for another minute. Spoon a heaping spoonful into the liners. They should be half full.

Bake for 18-24 minutes or until cupcakes spring back when lightly touched. Cool completely on cooling racks.

Banana Cream Pie Frosting Recipe

1 package instant banana pudding
1 cup fat free half and half (or milk)
1 tsp vanilla
1 container whipped topping
1/4 cup confectioners sugar

Mix pudding with half and half until thickened slightly; fold in whipped topping and confectioners sugar until frosting is creamy. Chill for at least 30 minutes to set. Then frost each cupcake. I like to put frosting into a large ziploc and snip a hole into the bottom corner and pipe onto each cupcake. Keep cupcakes in fridge until ready to serve. Serve with crushed vanilla wafers sprinkled on top if desired.

Let us know what you think if you do make these!!

Summer reading list for kids

We have a few more summer reading lists, but for kids today!  We have an idea for a couple different ages.

Left: elementary, center: toddler, right: preschooler

I bought this dilapidated copy of Green Eggs and Ham at the Goodwill.  And before you freak out that I cut it all up and stamped on it, I promise it was missing several pages smack dab in the middle!  This one was a gift, so I didn't write any titles down, but you get the jist, right?  I made the banner from pages in the book.

This next one is more of an elementary school version.  This book was also from Goodwill, but it was intact so I wanted to make a version that didn't destroy the book.

I photocopied an illustration and then cut it smaller...

I put a title and and large circles on the illustration and then added the titles to the circles.  I used a clothespin to hold the sheet to the cover, but there shouldn't be any damage to the book.  I thought it might make a fun end of the year gift for classmates!

The final one (I know, this isn't in any order that makes sense!) is the toddler reading list that basically just for decoration.  Not that it hurts to have some titles in mind, I guess.  I already had this cute little book, but it was torn to shreds.

I cut out the broken animal pop-up pieces to use for the titles.

Then glued them to a piece of twine with hot glue.

Here's a few of the pieces I used.

If you don't already have a big list of summer reading for your kids, here's a few sites with recommendations.
